| Case Study 1
Consultancy with a pharmaceutical wholesaler. The initial brief was to use GCM Solutions supply chain and project management experience to ensure a joint venture operated to its maximum efficiency. Early investigation suggested that insufficient product was being processed, and consequently improvements to the layout and flow of the warehouse were suggested and adopted. The improved flow highlighted that a major issue was one of too little stock to process. Further work identified the reasons for too little stock being available and actions taken to improve the situation. A few principle issues became apparent. Communication between the purchaser and the processor was strained, with too little emphasis placed upon value management of product choice. The initial contract was extended several times as it became apparent the initial brief covered only a small part of the issues, and the brief consequently broadened to enable the other identified issues to be tackled. This role required working with different cultures, companies (including Government departments), and ways of working to ensure that the operation made a profit. GCM Solutions negotiation skills were invaluable to ensure the disparate elements worked together for the group benefit. The client commented that: “GCM Solutions solved the problem we had, which wasn’t the problem we thought we had” and that: “GCM Solutions expertise identified and delivered solutions to the real problem, and increased, significantly, the product delivered.” |
